Configure Sage Sales Management before you start

Prepare your working environment and discover which settings you can configure when you need them

Written by Product Learning

Summary

Sage Sales Management can be adapted to the way your organisation works. Before you start adding and managing information, it is useful to understand which elements you can configure and which ones are worth defining from the outset.

You can configure areas such as your company details, the fields used to record information, value lists, users and the tools connected to your CRM.

You do not need to configure everything before you start. Some settings can be defined initially, while others can be adapted later as your organisation’s needs evolve.

Before you start: configure what you need

Configuration allows you to adapt Sage Sales Management to your organisation’s structure, data and processes.

For example, before you start working, you may want to:

  • Review your general company details.

  • Define the currency and units you use.

  • Prepare the fields you need for Accounts, Contacts, Opportunities, Activities and other entities.

  • Configure the value lists used by those fields and processes.

  • Invite the people who will be working with Sage Sales Management.

  • Import existing information if you already have customer, contact or opportunity data.

  • Connect tools such as email, calendar or video conferencing.

You can return to these settings whenever you need to. Your CRM configuration can evolve alongside your organisation.

Your profile and your organisation’s configuration are not the same

Sage Sales Management distinguishes between information that belongs to your individual user account and configuration that affects your organisation’s working environment.

From My profile, you can manage personal information such as your name, language, telephone number or password.

Other options, such as company details, custom fields, value lists, users and certain tools, form part of the CRM configuration.

The options you can view or modify depend on your permissions and how your organisation’s environment has been configured.

Where do you configure Sage Sales Management?

You can access the available configuration options from the Sage Sales Management web application.

Open your profile menu and select My profile and configuration.

From here, you can access different areas related to the configuration of your environment.

Settings

This area contains the options used to adapt the information and structure of your CRM.

Depending on the options available in your environment, you can manage areas such as:

  • My profile

  • Company Settings

  • Customise fields

  • Value lists

  • Import data

  • Price List Management

  • Automations

Tools

This area allows you to configure tools that complement your day-to-day work, such as email and calendar synchronisation or available video conferencing solutions.

Integrations

This area contains the available options for connecting Sage Sales Management with other systems and services.

The integrations available depend on your organisation’s configuration.

Different ways to administer Sage Sales Management

Sage Sales Management configuration adapts to the needs and structure of each organisation. The administration model available depends on your plan and, within the organisation, the role assigned to each user.

Essential and Starter

With the Essential and Starter plans, configuration is managed directly from My profile and configuration in Sage Sales Management.

From this area, you can access the available options for preparing and adapting your CRM, including company details, custom fields, value lists, users and connected tools.

This model allows the environment to be administered directly within Sage Sales Management and its configuration to be adapted as the needs of the business evolve.

Professional and Performance

The Professional and Performance plans include an Administration Platform that provides advanced capabilities for configuring and administering environments with broader organisational structures.

Users with the Admin role can access Admin - advanced config. and centrally manage areas such as users and teams, hierarchies, permissions, fields, value lists and other advanced configuration options.

Other users continue to have access to My profile and configuration, but the options they can modify depend on their role and the permissions defined by their organisation.

This allows the overall CRM configuration to remain centrally managed while each user retains access to the options they need for their work.

Important: Configuration concepts are common across Sage Sales Management regardless of the plan. What changes is the capacity available, where each area is administered and the permissions required to configure it.

What should you configure first?

There is no single initial configuration that applies to every organisation.

If you are setting up Sage Sales Management for the first time, start with the elements that will affect the information you add later.

For example, it may be useful to define your company details, currency and units before working with commercial information; review your fields and value lists before importing large amounts of data; and prepare your users and connected tools before your team starts working regularly in Sage Sales Management.

The rest of the configuration can be completed as the need arises.

Want to continue configuring your CRM?

You do not need to learn them all at once.
