What is CalDAV?
CalDAV (Calendaring Extensions to WebDAV) is a standard protocol based on HTTP and WebDAV. It enables users to access, manage and synchronise calendars hosted on a remote server. It is widely used to integrate calendars across different applications and platforms.
Why use CalDAV with Outlook?
Microsoft Outlook does not natively support CalDAV. However, using a third-party add-in such as Outlook CalDav Synchronizer, it is possible to set up two-way synchronisation of events, tasks and contacts between Outlook and CalDAV-supported services like Google Calendar, Nextcloud or SOGo.
Steps to set up synchronisation with Outlook CalDav Synchronizer
Download and install the add-in:
Visit the official site: https://caldavsynchronizer.org/download-2/
Extract the
.zip
file and runsetup.exe
.Restart Outlook. You should now see a "CalDav Synchronizer" tab in the ribbon.
Find your CalDAV URL:
Log in to your calendar service (e.g. Webmail, Nextcloud).
Locate the CalDAV calendar settings and copy the synchronisation URL.
Create a synchronisation profile in Outlook:
Go to the "CalDav Synchronizer" tab and click on "Synchronization Profiles".
Click "+" to create a new profile and select "Generic CalDAV/CardDAV".
Give the profile a name and choose the Outlook folder to sync.
Enter the following under server settings:
DAV URL: the CalDAV link you copied.
Username and password of your CalDAV account.
Email address associated with the calendar.
Click "Test or discover settings" to check the connection.
Once confirmed, click "OK" to save.
Start synchronisation:
Click "Synchronize now" to start manually.
Automatic syncs will follow the set interval.
Key considerations
Compatibility: Works with Outlook 2007–2019 and Office 365 desktop versions.
Outlook for Mac: Not supported.
Third-party tool: This is not an official Microsoft product. Always back up data before use.
Avoid conflicts: Do not use CalDAV sync alongside Mobile Sync (ActiveSync) on the same email account.
